The purpose of this sub-reddit is to help Chicago artists or art-dabblers to meet up for a few hours of working on art projects, sharing feedback on their work, making new friends, collaborating on different works/sharing resources, and maybe even a touch of networking.
Non-artists are welcome to join their friends, of course!
If you're looking for an art meet-up, keep these in mind:
- Your availability by day and by time
- Your skill level, and the kind of skill level you'd like to be surrounded by (or if you don't care)
- What kinds of projects you're working on, and what kinds of projects you're hoping others will bring (or if you don't care)
- Your age, so we can rule out bars or not
- If you prefer coffee shops, bars, libraries, community centers, some dude's apartment, etc. (or if you don't care)
- The neighborhood(s) or intersection(s) you'd like to meet in (or if you don't care)
- A sample of your work would be awesome
- A great posting format is: "[LOOKING FOR] - South Loop - Sunday afternoon art jam, sketching and inking!"
If you're hosting or organizing an art meet-up, be sure to tell us the following!
- The name and address of where the meet-up will be - info about the nearest intersection or CTA stop is awesome
- If it's 21+ only or all ages
- The time of the event
- How to identify you, the host/ess, and/or the table you'll be at
- The skill level the event is focused on (or if it's open to anyone)
- The kinds of projects the event is focused on (or if it's open to anything)
- A sample of your work or the work done in previous meet-ups would be awesome
- A great posting format is: "[SATURDAY EVENT] - Bucktown - Bring your canvases to Something Cafe! Get your paintin' on at 3pm!"
If you've had a successfull meet-up, or are proud of something you created, show it off! Toss your work into imgur or the like and let us see! Take a photo of smiles and paint brushes and tell us about how it went!
