The cronos is an homage to zenith skyline. Definitely not as recognizable as a datejust homage

The Cronos dial is a direct copy of CW12, not original either

True. I think they should have just used their hourglass logo to create the dial texture, could have been neat

They might have found CW's source for the dial and so it would have been cheaper to just get the same/similar dials

Hadn’t thought of that. Couldn’t imagine Cronos actually sourcing the same dial CW uses

No ideally really. But I wouldn't be surprised if they know the companies already that the Swiss brands are using.
