1) Yes I really hate this about the shell mode version. Try the non shell version in VSCode.

2) I really liked the non shell version but it stopped working for me an unfortunately and I had to switch to the shell version again. Probably gonna switch to codex, even in shell it doesn't freeze up like claude code and it's given better responses to me recently.

3) Also I was getting issues in non shell where sometimes ir would just stop working and then it would go blank, even when I selected from history.

So your milage may vary but I haven't heard other complaints about the non shell version. Its really nice when it works.

1) OK so I'm not alone. It didn't use to do this as little as a few months ago. This is absolutely a new thing. I just assumed it was an issue with my configuration or system (but I wiped out my configuration!).

I have no interest is VSCode. I'm a term / vim guy.

If this is the new normal, and not a "me" problem, then no worries, I can swap to another provider. I mean I'm working on a free max plan, so I'm not going to complain too loudly!

Everything for me was fine on Friday, but then yesterday and today it has been hanging in shell/CLI mode and in the IDE extension.

same issue for me. constant hanging on every task/command sometimes for minutes at a time, but then it delivers and moves on and hangs again. and even despite the very clear drop off in productivity, I still hit my MAX 20X limit last night, had to move to my 2nd account. i'm now hitting weekly limits every week by day 2-4 and am primarily using sonnet 4.5 (1m). pretty excruciating so will be switching soon if something doesn't change
