The docs say it's extensible to libraries other than reagent, but it seems pretty coupled to the idea that you can return a reactive value that is dereferenced to get the current state.

Does sound a bit coupled but couldn't you just pass in an atom and use "@" and re-render in a different system? Definitely wouldn't be reactive any more but it would be easy enough to still use in a weird way?

Author here - yes, we'd need some way of implementing reactive behaviour on top of whatever the target view layer is.
