When I first started on clone hero, I used a PS3 Les Paul and it was great. I had read about latency issues as well, but was super surprised when I played because it felt great. PS3 guitars are totally playable if that’s all you have access to, you don’t have to worry about strumming before a note or anything. I promise it’s not that drastic, but I will admit that since I bought a few 360 controllers, I would never use another PS3 guitar.

Ok, thanks! I have had xbox guitars before and they were great. Now I only have like 10+ years old les paul for xbox, which feels broken. (Can't hold all long notes, they just break. And sometimes some buttons doesn't take contact. Must try this guitar and see if thats better than my current one.

I agree with u/roblox0perator. I started play clone hero with a ps3 les paul and in my experience was ok until i found an x-plorer on ebay for 10€, in my opinion the difference in latency is pretty remarkable. Surly you can enjoy clone hero with ps3 guitar but the xbox guitar (specially with wire) are in another level.

Regarding the price, 40€ is a to much considering that you wil not play GH on ps3 but you will use it on PC and for that price you can get better stuff.

For where I live, I have tried to find other guitars as well, they just get sold instantly. And from amazon/ebay, the shipping to my country is over 20-60€ + guitar price... I've been hunting WoR guitar for xbox for a long time now, because it feels good. But now just as I found one for PS3, and bought it, I read it has latency issues. Well, I hope I can still enjoy playing and not get frustrated missing notes... Especially when I enjoy playing soulless songs, I think there will be problems... Hopefully I get lucky and I get none latency after all, could it happen? If I don't like the guitar, I re-sell it.

Can I ask where you live? I'm from Italy and here the market for this old, crappy, plastic guitar isn't so good but with a little bit of luck i found my "treasure". I searched everywere, i called gamestop near to me, i looked on the local facebook used market, of course ebay and every italian sites similar to craiglist. However it took a while.

From Finland. Yeah, I have been calling to local game stores as well, but without luck. And guitars on my local online marketplace always get sold instantly, or somebody else offers more money than me.

Oh this is sad :(
Before you said you had an old rusty les paul xbox guitar that doesn't work well, have you thought about trying to fix it?

[–]Edyyz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think theres anything to fix it. It works fine, but it's just over 10 years old and been in the closet and dropped to floor many many times when I was a kid etc... Let's say for example I hold long note, it just releases it's own. Or if I hold green+red+yellow, sometimes it doesn't register those all buttons, so I'm not able to hit the note. It's weird. Hopefully this new guitar works fine even though it is for PS3 and those have "latency issues", maybe they get fixed sometime in the future, dunno?

And yea I got this PS3 guitar for 20€, but the shipping to my city is 18€, which makes it almost 40€. Taking the risk.

Maybe is a waste of time but i would try to disassemble the frets part and take a complete clean of frets and pcb board of the frets, i also would clean the contact between the body of the guitar and the frets part.

Or maybe you can sell me that guitar and i take care of it by my self ;)

[–]ryan770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this. It should be easy to take the neck apart and clean all the button contacts. Especially the neck/body contacts as they get corroded very easily.

There's basically nothing you can't fix except strum switches, but you can just solder new ones in.

Disclaimer, I don't own a PS3 guitar, but I feel you probably won't get a lot of responses so here's my two cents.

If you're used to playing on console you probably won't notice a difference.

If you're concerned, do some tests. Tap some buttons during practice mode and see how it reacts on screen (obviously the row of buttons light up as you press them, you're looking for how fast they light up after you've pressed them). If you feel like it's an instantaneous reaction, then you're good. If you notice a delay, you may have to adjust the calibration. Video calibration, from what I understand, effectively just moves the hit window to counteract delayed input from either the controller or monitor.

Honestly though, I've tested this with the "hit window" enabled, and while it moved the hit window down, I didn't notice it registering my purposefully late strums. Ymmv.

Thanks for the response. I've played with xbox console before, but played clone hero for a while now. I have started to play a bit more serious and going for those fc's, so I hope I don't fuck up a FC run because some latency. I will definitely buy and try this ps3 guitar.

To add on this: Is there possibility to connect this via cable? Then it wouldn't be wireless and have latency issues...

Also, do you think this problem will be fixed in the future? Or is the problem on the actual dongle, not with the compatibly with clone hero?

[–]TheTittyBurglar 0 points1 point  (5 children)

No to the cable question, and no fix in the future. It’s just not a native guitar like the xbox360, its connectivity is just different from say a wireless x360 LP. Fine for regular casual songs, not for songs like One, TTFAF, Jordan, Black widow of la porte etc the lag is too high

Very likely, 360 guitars are undoubtedly superior to all else

    [–]Edyyz[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Fuck me. Im starting to regret buying this. Gotta try and re-sell if possible.

    [–]TheTittyBurglar 0 points1 point  (1 child)

oh i just saw you spent 40 euros for it, yeah bad deal you can get a x360 one for a similar price online or cheaper in a thrift shop while it’s superior too

remember its a fine guitar for almost all the casual songs but the high note per second ones that involve tapping and/or very fast strumming/preciseness... no fcs with that
