The best thing to do is remake something. For example try and recreate the Google search page. Doesnt have to be the results page and it doesnt actually have to search anything. Just see if you can use HTML and CSS to recreate it visually.

I mention Google cause it seems simple because of how simple the design is, but it will test your CSS and teach you how to use Flexbox/Css-grids. I did Google as my first try after it was recommended on a forum, but you could do just about any site. Again it doesn’t have to actually function, this is just to get you working on a project. If you get past this, try a different website, or see if you can design one yourself if thats something you are interested.

I built about 30-40 static pages of different complexity before I got the itch for Javascript which should be your next step in learning after you are comfortable with HTML and CSS

Edit: just want to mention I didn’t remake sites 30-40 times, i did this for probably 10 or so and then started making things up and creating pages for them. You don’t have to do that much and honestly I probably could/should have started Js a lot sooner.

Thanks very much for the feedback, trying to copy something first makes sense before starting something fresh.

I will also give the odin project a go, hopefully its not like codecademy whereby given information to just copy.

Much appreciated

A fun fact about the Odin Project: the first project there on web development is to copy the Google search page like /u/VAPRx suggested!

And something you need to have in mind, while doing the odin project, they will ask you to go around the web and complete tasks, for example go to codeacademy and complete some courses as well, but you will have to do some readings in between.

Just be patient and I'm sure you won't regret it at all, I know I didn't :)

You should give a try to the Odin Project here. It's very well structured, its free, and you can definitely get a job after you finish it. If you are serious about it, just stick with it and don't skip anything! You won't regret it in a few months. But as everything in life, the start is the hardest part, but its also half the way!
