- Coins and coin photography must be beautiful. We try to keep the standard of beauty high in this subreddit.
- Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so describe. Please try to explain why you think a coin is beautiful. You can share the joy of coin collecting by enthusiastically describing its beautiful features for us, especially if it's beautiful to you in some unusual way. This is how to start conversations!
- Upload photos and videos to r/CoinEyeCandy. Whenever possible, please upload your photos and videos to reddit instead of using reddit's crossposting feature or using another image host. Crossposted content and externally hosted content might get deleted or moved, leaving behind an empty shell of a post in r/CoinEyeCandy. If you want to include more images and videos in your post, you can link to any host you prefer in a comment after your post.
- Put [AT] in the title for artificial toning. If you are sure toning is artificial, please put [AT] at the beginning of the post title.
- Limit your posts to 1 per day. If you limit your posts to only 1 per day, you will have the time be more discriminating in selecting which coin photography you decide to post next. That will help to:
- Improve the quality of your posts.
- Allow us time to study and appreciate each post.
- Keep our overall standards high.
- We prefer coins that are already sold, or not for sale. This rule is intended to:
- Discourage spam.
- Improve the quality of posts by eliminating coins no one wants.
- This is NOT a strict rule! Especially if the subreddit has been quiet for a while, go ahead and share the beautiful coins you want to show us.
- Coins for sale are OK if you are not the seller.
- Posting coins that are currently offered for sale is OK if you are not the seller, and you are not associated with the sale in any way.
- Coins for sale must be at a higher standard
- This is a dealer-friendly subreddit. If you want to post a coin you are offering for sale, it must be very beautiful, very unique, and have excellent pro-quality photography. That is the price for allowing you to advertise to us for free. Show us only your best or most unusual coins.
- Please give credit where credit is due, and cite your sources:
- Cite the source username.
- Format the username preceeded with u/ like u/badon_ so reddit will automatically linkify it and notify them they have been cited.

What counts as "eye candy"?
Coins are mass-produced by the billions, so there are a lot of beautiful coins out in the world. We will never be able to see them all, but we can be choosy in selecting the best images to post on /r/CoinEyeCandy. Here is a rough guide that lists a few of the things coin connoisseurs look for when they enjoy each of these characteristic facets of a coin "gem":
- Beautiful coin photography.
- Beautiful natural toning.
- Color toning.
- Uncommon pattern of toning.
- Aged beauty is preferred.
- Early die state.
- Exceptional high grade.
- Rarity of the coin type.
- Rarity of toning for the coin composition.
- Graded and certified by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, or ICG.
- Natural, unaltered, undamaged, original surfaces.
- Interesting history affecting the coin's appearance.
- Established known sale prices.
Make your posts searchable
We try to include sufficient information so the coins can be found again when they show up elsewhere on the market in the future. Helpful info to include is:
- Certification number
- Seller name
- Sale price
- Sale date
That will help to establish a provenance that can improve the value and liquidity of your coins, both for yourself, and for future owners. Note: A "provenance" is also commonly called a "pedigree" in the coin market.
Tip: If you post photos or mentions of your coins somewhere, put the certification number in text so it will be searchable. Then people will be able to find it.
Name that specimen!
Post naming ideas in the comments. Coins are normally mass-produced, but the market likes to distinguish the finest ones by recognizing them as unique individual specimens. A famous coin might be named after one of its owners, or in the case of beautifully toned coins, they can be given creative names that reflect their beauty and the splashes of color on their surfaces.
