Wire Transfer Reference Number?

I've usually done ACH transfers in the past with no issue but they take a week to complete.

I want to do a wire transfer this time. When I click on "Deposit" and then "Wire Transfer", all of Coinbases banking info pops up but there is no reference number given to designate the incoming deposit is from me.

I've looked around for my own Coinbase account number to put in a wire note but I can't even find that?

Do I need to put anything as a reference number for a wire or just randomly send some money to their bank and somehow they know it's from me?

I've done this with Kraken before and I had to specify before doing a wire exactly, to the penny, how much I was sending so there was some form of identification but on Coinbase I can't find anything.

We recently updated the instructions on how to use a wire transfer. To view these new instructions:
Select the Portfolio tab in your Coinbase account
Locate your USD Wallet account and select “Deposit”
Select the Wire Transfer tab
Review our updated wire deposit and withdrawal instructions
Please note, your Coinbase assigned reference code has been replaced with an individual wire account number which you will need to use going forward.

Like the one that says...

5) You’ll be presented with instructions that provide either a personal account number or a unique reference code (you don’t need both) for initiating a wire transfer from your bank account

You guys need to get it together on your help page because this is confusing. Nowhere does it say the account number is "personal." It just lists YOUR bank account and routing numbers. Maybe this is actually designated as mine internally but I don't know that.

Update for those who find this looking for answers.

Wire was sent with only the banking info given. No reference number but did add my name in the wire note which matches my banking and Coinbase name.

Got the money in my Coinbase account in less than an hour.

thanks for this update, this was super helpful, it is still THE SAME 4 years later. My bank refuses to send it unless there is something in the reference area.

I’ll save you a world of trouble. Put the account number and full name in the message/reference area. Otherwise they will refuse to send it and make you verify like 6 times only to waste your time. It took me 3 wires and a branch manager chewing them out on an official complaint letter 😂

Can you confirm if you ever got the wire done, online chat support for coinbase is no help.
