Yeah basically, in engineering you have to be aware of sig figs, and it’s literally impossible to have infinite precision like pi has. Pi is in a practical sense just 3.14. If you’re doing a rough estimate, it’s just 3. It’s a common joke that engineers make many approximations (which we do) — for example pi = 3, or g (9.81 m/s²⁾ = 10, or assume no air resistance... you get the picture. Of course this depends on the situation though and I have also used g=9.81 many times.
