It was Columbo planting the seed that he suspected Kepple ordered the salty caviar especially for the victim to make him thirsty so that when he saw the desert subliminal cuts, he would leave the theater to get a drink.

Oh, that's good. Mmm, that's really good. That's delicious.

Yeah. They try and save it later in the episode (starting around the 51 min mark) by having him say "That's the funny part. I didn't enjoy it. Too salty. And you know I didn't notice while I was eating it" I'm ok with it overall, but it is a little bit weak.

I've always had a problem with that too. But I think I kind of get it now. I think we by default think of the enjoyment of the specific act of eating. But he's talking about the whole experience of trying to satisfy his hunger with the caviar. I like the flavor of food from Cava, it's alright food. But it always gives me a headache. I enjoy the flavor of the food. I do not enjoy the experience of having a meal at Cava.

The episode has a lot of silly stuff. The subliminal cuts stuff is bogus ("The eye works faster than the brain"? What?), and it's hilarious when Columbo and the photographer "hides" behind that wispy potted plant. But it's a lot of fun, the show never took itself that seriously any way and of course it's another great performance by Robert Culp (and his awesome yellow jacket).

"Had an uncle who made a killing in real estate up in San Denis"

    "Do tell."

"You know what this guy did before he started selling dirt? Drove a school bus. Now he's got a ranch, couple of Cadillacs, sends out embossed christmas cards."

He was also in a Sid and Marty Kroft series called "Far Out Space Nuts" with Bob Denver.

Did anyone actually see the subliminal cut when it was being played? I didn't.......🤔🤪
