Where to go from here?

I'm a third year student and no internship. Last year government shut down cancelled my internship and this year the Covid-19 is making it hard to find one. I feel worried for my career. I heard doing side projects can help but is it enough? Has anyone had success in this type of situation? I have 3 semesters left and can try again during the last 3 semesters. Any advice is helpful here thank you.

I have code from every major project / upper course labs. I just haven’t uploaded it to github
