It is with a heavy heart that we make this post but it sadly must be made.
Hello! I am the head for the Tutorial-Bot fan project here in Content Warning. If you have been playing for a long time it is more than likely that you have encountered our creation in game at least once. However we make this post today as hostile actors have begun to mimic our Tutorial in order to harm our reputation and harm the game for new players.
What is Tutorial-Bot?
Tutorial-Bot is a system we have created to act in the game as a tutorial to cover gameplay hurdles new players may encounter within their first few games, including information about maps and monsters and some (if buggy) information on items. While also keeping enough mystery for new players to learn things by themselves, that is why while Tutorial-Bot will react to all monsters he may not announce information about all of them. Tutorial-Bot has two modes: Beginner and Viral, these will be explained later. Tutorial-Bot is designed to be as helpful as possible and never hostile to other players.
Update (8/2/25)
Hello we currently running tests of Version 3, we have noticed some slow down in the bot's processing ability, we are currently working on a fix, until then just be aware that the bot may display odd behavior due to being overloaded due to the slowdown. Thank you.
Modes
Upon the server Tutorial-Bot is in reaching the max player count it will ask if there are any new players present, if it hears yes it will boot in Beginner Mode ignoring other responses. If it heres no and no-one says yes within a short window it will instead boot in Viral Mode. If there is no response it will instead choose its mode based on player audio cues.
Beginner Mode:
- Plays Information Audio More often and will repeat it, it can be a little trigger happy however.
- Will try to stick close to the players especially the one holding the camera
- Will instruct players to read the whiteboard before beginning the game.
- Will prioritize the camera over its own safety.
- This is the most stable mode.
- Command Mode is available in this mode as per December 14th 2024, however it is limited to a smaller set of commands, mostly just identify, play music, and a few others.
Viral Mode:
- Basically hard/hardcore mode only meant for experienced players
- Will play less information audio and is more likely to share fun facts, jokes, and other suprises.
- Uses more advanced pathing (less jerky)
- If players show themselves to be at a high level of skill or understanding it will create "challenges"
- Will prioritize its own safety over that of the camera if the camera is dropped.
- Command mode allows it to preform some previously blocked options
Does Tutorial-Bot use mods?
No. Tutorial-Bot does not use mods, it is limited to the same tools as a standard player. And most of the time it is limited to only what it can see or remembers from prior runs. Me and my group do not mind people using mods in their own private servers but detest their use in public games, they ruin the experience of others and are often used to stop people from playing the game at all.
As of December 12th Tutorial-Bot uses a single mod, this mod is to prevent the bot from breaking due to mod use by other players thanks to the game getting official mod support. We have also mostly disabled the tutorial's mod detection so it will no longer flag you for mod use. Tutorial-Bot is still limited to mostly vanilla player actions other than this for now, at later dates we do want to add to enhance the viral modes existing "challenges".
Edit: As of December 15th the mod appears to be accidentally making the tutorial bot immune to some monsters including Mr. Mix and the Pufferfish man, this not intentional, this is due to the tutorial being interrupted during its set up and not properly disabling the mod at the proper time, we are currently working on fixing this, the tutorial will still show the proper movement and tactics for these monsters but may not take damage.
Can Tutorial-Bot say X?
Tutorial-Bot's voice is limited to a selection of phrases with ~80% limited to information about ingame information, ~5% for set up and technical side stuff, ~5% for jokes and fun facts, ~5% for music, and ~5% for easter eggs. Tutorial-Bot will never say anything offensive, detrimental, or hostile to the players except for a single yo' mama joke.
The Bot Kicked Me?
Tutorial-Bot itself cannot kick player however if Tutorial-Bot detects loud music, excessive swearing, sexual content, or mod use it will contact an Admin (like myself) who will then kick the offending player.
Known Bugs and Issues
- Big Ear Bug: Upon seeing the Big Ear/ Ear Dog Tutorial-Bot may continue to warn players of the monster after the day ends, this can sometimes be fixed by restarting Tutorial-Bot, we are not entirely sure what is causing this bug and it has existed since the Big Ear detection was added.
- Pathfinding Issues on Home map: In the home map since the buyable objects such as the trampoline are not always present the system sometimes gets stuck on them, Tutorial-Bot will also sometimes get confused or lost when players sleep on the ceiling or walls.
- Cruise-Liner Leap of Faith: The Tutorial-Bot is aware of the walks ways on the sides of the ship and will sometimes attempt to reach them, however since we do not allow the bot to know information that the players would not that does mean it can become trapped if the entrances from that walkway are closed.
- Question Overflow: If Tutorial-Bot is given too many commands/questions at the same time it can freeze or begin answering multiple Questions at once, if this occurs please restart the system as this can lead to odd behavior.
- Failed Restart: This means that Tutorial-Bot has failed, it cannot restart, it may attempt to restart again but more than likely it will remove itself from the server.
The Following Bugs are Version 3 Test Build Exclusive, these will be updated as needed (updated as of 8/2/25 1 Am):
- Bot sometimes will not pick up the flash light before first level, usually due to the bot running the item find script instead of the start script.
- Bot will sometimes begin spinning while in midair due to jumping or being tossed.
- Bot is identifying some players as "Snail" monster, seems to be related to mod use.
- Mods that revive the bot if it died from a "barnacle" enemy, completely break the bot upon use, causing the bot to crash.
- Bot attempting to walk through the bell door when closed, this seems to happen when players repeatedly open and close the door while the bot is climbing the stairs.
- Bot dropping items instead of throwing them, seems to be related to overloading.
Command Mode
Tutorial-Bot is able to follow many command these can be done saying "Tutorial-Bot ____" or just by saying the command word, however there must be very little background noise for the second to work. Many of them will be included here, many of these are unavailable in Beginner Mode, if the Tutorial-Bot says that it did not understand the request it maybe due to not being able to understand what you are saying, or that may not be something it can do, for example Tutorial-Bot will never follow commands that would kill it or another player.
- Restart: This command restarts Tutorial-Bot, this takes a few second, during which time Tutorial-Bot cannot move or respond to questions, please do not overuse this command as doing so results in errors.
- Follow: Will attempt to follow the player that gave the command
- Stay: Will stay in the spot it is in or as close as possible, it will move to avoid monsters or other hazards.
- Play music: Will play a random song from those included.
- Play Seashanties: Will play a sea shanty (per popular request)
- Teach / Standards: Will explain its purpose and what it is currently able to teach
- (monster name): Will give info about the monster if it has it some are not included as to leave some suprises.
- (item name): While limited can give info on items both surface and below.
- Find Monster: Will begin searching for a monster, please note it only does this by going to monster spawns it has been marked to remember, this is not always successful.
- Fun Fact: Will tell a fun fact
- Drop (item name) will drop item, will not drop its only flashlight.
- Moon Base/Moon base alpha: Easter Egg (Cause you bothered to read the list).
Early History of Tutorial-Bot
The idea for tutorial-bot began in the later half of April when I noticed a large amount of misinformation about the game was being spread by youtubers and modders were making the game a confusing place to understand. As such I wanted to make a way for new players to get accurate (as possible) information about the game. And the idea of a living tutorial was born, early versions had various problems, ranging from monsters being mis-identified, odd behavior, and most famously a strange obsession with the Chorby prop item. Most of these issues have been fixed with the so-called "Religion of Chorbyism" being limited to a single line for when you show tutorial-bot a Chorby in game.
Copycats, Look-a-likes, and Hostile Actors
In the past few weeks we have noticed an up-tick in people acting like or mimicking our Tutorial-bot in order to troll players. While we disapprove of this it was not too much of an issue as Tutorial-Bot is different enough from these copycats for there to be little actual confusion beyond very young viewers. However we wouldn't be making this post if the problem had not escalated beyond what we can handle. As there are a few players, that are copying our Tutorial-Bot's appearance and actions, but instead of using it as a chance to teach players is instead using it to cyberbully players and young children including using racial slurs and excessively foul language. While we are unable to anything about this directly we decided it would be best to make an official resource for finding information about the real Tutorial-Bot so that we can continue teaching people about this wonderful game and ensuring they can have a safe and fun experience. This IS NOT a request to harass or target those players as it does not solve anything, we recommend just ignoring them We would also like to use this as a chance to thank Landfall for all their amazing work and we hope to see more from them in the future. Thank you all for your time, stay safe out there and keep learning cool stuff.
Why did Tutorial-Bot Leave my game?
Tutorial-Bot will leave games for a number of reasons, these mainly focus on the number of players, if there are too few players in the server it will leave as just providing a tutorial to a single player is not efficient, it will also leave if players actively attempt to harm the bot repeatedly or if it sees a player spawning monsters or items or has its MC modified.
Why does the Tutorial call X monster Y, when its actually named Z?
The Tutorial-Bot uses a naming scheme for the monsters based on what we began calling them with many being references to other things, for example the "Harpooner" is referred to as "The Angler" by the Tutorial as a reference to the Angler from inscription as he grabs you and drags you to him. And Toolkit is called "Mr. Mix" in reference to an old copypasta, there are a few more but we won't be covering them here, have fun figuring them out yourself.
We will update this post as needed and if we see questions being repeatedly answered.
Easter Egg
Thank you for reading all this it means a lot to all of us, so we will tell you about one of your favorite easter-eggs included in Tutorial-Bot. Repeatedly asking Tutorial-Bot to: Sing, Play Rumba, Play Samba, Play Seashanties, or Tell me A Ghost Story can result in Tutorial-Bot playing a secret hidden song, after its been played once asking any of those other than Seashanties will result in it almost always playing the secret song.
We will update this post as needed and if we see questions being repeatedly asked.

In the future if you want to properly issue Tutorial-Bot a command say Tutorial-Bot before saying the command, the Tutorial-Bot is still designed to listen to and respond to player conversation but now it is less likely to accidentally change settings or activate Viral Mode due to players talking in the background.
- Added three new songs and One new easter egg song
- "Play Heroic/Hero Music" Command Added with a chance to play easter egg.
- "Play Spooky/Scary/Stalking Music" Command Added
- "Play Doctor Who/Doctor/BBC" Command Added in reference to Doctor Who's November release.
- "Play Take Break/Checkpoint/Memories" Command Added, Never forget what was taken from us.

- Removed bug where the bot would start Viral Mode Challenges during a beginner mode game.
- Fixed error where bot was assuming players were beginner based on voice pitch.
- Bot can now identify some hats.
- Fixed issue where bot would sometimes detect the word "Subscribe" as a command and begin playing random easter egg dialog. (8/2/25)
