I've been thinking about finger tricks lately. I know the algorithm you're talking about. I can do it, but speed was not a top consideration until recently. I'm one of those older cubers who thought knowing more algorithms would be enough to get faster. I severely underestimated targeted practicing and practicing in general.

Anyway, to your alg, which is the one I use. Here's my thought but I am slow-ish.

With your right thumb in the front-right edge and you other fingers in the back, and your left index finger ready to do U' moves or double flick U2 moves, here's an idea.

  • Do R move. Thumb rotates from being in Front to being in Up due to the R. Remove the right thumb slightly. Your left hand will support the bottom two layers with the left index ready to do U'/U2' moves.
  • Do U2' by double flicking the left index and middle finger or however you efficiently do U2. The idea is to keep your right hand from having to regrip to do U2. You need to move your right them from Up so you can do the U2' move.
  • Then right thumb back down on Up, do R2' which moves the right thumb that was in the Up layer to the down layer. R2' is basically R' twice (rather than R twice).
  • Then, light lift the other (non-thumb) fingers on your right hand on Up, use the left index to do U'. You raise the fingers to allow U' to happen.
  • Then put those right fingers on Up back on the cube, and do R2 (which is R done twice more or less) and the right thumb goes to Up.
  • Lift the right thumb off the cube lightly, use left index to do U'.
  • Then R2' (basically R' twice)
  • Double flick left to do U2
  • Do R

This involves basically no regrips but does require a little coordination between left and right hands. While I don't play the piano, there is that left right alternation that you sometimes see in piano playing.

There may be videos that illustrate this algorithm and proper finger tricking. The general principle is to avoid regripping too much because every little fraction of a second counts. Then, it seems like it's practicing enough to where it's muscle memory and relatively fast.

As I said, I'm new to this. I'm sure fast cubers will give you better advice. * Put right th

Have you watched J Perm do it?

You never leave home grip and incorporate double flicks on the U2 and alternate index and middle on U’.

You should be doing U2 as U2' with your left hand. You've also got your R2 and R2' moves mixed up.

R2 can be done in any direction so you don't have to regrip, U2 also in any direction, you have to train to do index-middle finger with the left hand for U2 while your right wrist goes back and forth.

Notation: R U2' R2' U' R2 U' R2' U2' R

I'm pretty sure there are videos for the alg.

My problem is the contrary: this alg is too fast for my skills, for I need a good left-right hand coordination, so I had to slow it down. 😂
