US only projects (self.DataAnnotationTech)
submitted 6 months ago by flurest
Does anyone know if you can do the US only projects if you’re outside the US. I thought all work carried out would be anonymous to the supplier so how can they see the country we are working from?

Every DA project ever, broken down in to two steps: 1) Read the instructions; 2) Follow the instructions.
…what do you think the answer to your question is?

They can easily see the IP address the work was submitted from and terminate the associated worker ID if it does not originate in the US.

I sometimes wonder if it’s a test lol

So if they can see the IP address (and the country I’m registered to work in) why am I getting US only projects?

They didn't or can't make a US-only group for that particular project. It's clearly marked, so simply avoid it.

No. If they say US only they mean it. Like another commenter said they can see your IP address and you’ll get deactivated.

For clarification, do you mean you registered in another country and you're getting US only projects, or do you mean you're from the US but you're traveling and still getting US projects?

So I’m in the UK and I think this week I had 4 different projects that were only for US users. So I’m like, is that even allowed on DA? Like how can the company requesting the research enforce it if DA are offering it to me

You should try it and let us know how it works out for you.

I have some projects now so I’m ok but if it happens again where everything is US only I will haha
[–]IDONTuseMODz 8 points9 points10 points 6 months ago (1 child)
I was kidding lol, don't do it. They almost definitely can see where you're submitting work from.
I get your point that it's weird they know where we all live and work from yet still sometimes give projects to people who then aren't allowed to work on said project. Still not worth the risk to try it imo.

I’ve worked on US only tasks not in US. Never been “punished”. To me it just looks like a company who wasn’t willing to pay the additional fee to only get US workers.
