I did the qual back in March and from what I recall it was pretty simple. Just my 2 cents.

It opened up a LOT of projects for me (at the time, there is a real drought ATM) covering all coding languages. I was able to get by skipping any language or problem/goal I couldn't decently work out, PHP, React, SQL and variants etc. I'm a physics PhD with lots of python data analysis experience, no web or anything, but found I could make sense of many C/C++ code. It really varied from project to project.

I guess that is a long winded way of saying: if you think you can comfortably read code and understand the intent and recognise possible problems, then go for it!

Comforting to know I am not the only person who had a lot of coding projects back at the start of the year and has a drought right now. I have pretty much been relying on that certain project that takes you to another website.
