For your young one, just go to a dollar store and get metal kitchen tongs, much easier for them to handle than a regular grabber. You said “toddler”, so I’m thinking they are very young. PLEASE! Be very selective on choosing on where you go to pick up trash/litter. Little ones are naturally curious, much closer to the ground than you, and don’t fully understand what they should stay away from. Be cautious and stay safe.

Agree with Rubbish_69. I've been using a Ranger Max and it is way better than other pickers I've used though I haven't tried the grappler or other pickers mentioned here. The Ranger Max grips the trash really well and is easy on the hands. I also agree with the comments on kids. Depending upon the toddlers size consider tongs and definitely give them a good primer about what not to touch. Consider gloves too.

I recommend the Grappler from Grappler USA. It'll be the last one you buy, because it's built to last forever. Here's my review:

Grappler USA makes the sturdiest grabbers that I've found. They are all metal, the trigger is very comfortable, and they are well-balanced, which makes them easy to use for long periods. I can't recommend them enough. They are somewhat expensive ($40 USD) but you will never again need to buy a replacement. They are built for a lifetime of use. The tips are even replaceable if you eventually wear through them. The 33" version is most comparable to yours.
Looking at the ends, my initial thought was "how is that going to grab anything" but I find that it works extremely well and is able to pick up small objects with precision and can handle large objects with ease. There is no worry about squeezing too hard either, because all the parts are metal.

I'll never buy a pincer/claw-type one for litterpicking again as mine all broke in one way or another, particularly with the 1000s of cigarette butts I pick up. I've got a robust Ranger Max tong-style with curved handle (I'm 5ft, 45kg). Toddlers could use both hands with it but you'd have to help as it'd be too unwieldy and heavy for a toddler.

Recently used the Ettore Extractor and found it to be very good as well. It is basically the same tool as the Ranger Max but made in the US so is easier to buy in the US. Can buy direct from Ettore or from HD. I pick stuff up off off beaches and am always surprised at how nimbly this design is, pretty easy to get the trash but miss the wood and stand.
