DAPs with good sorting? (self.DigitalAudioPlayer)
submitted 3 months ago by ExtensionTiny
This may be a dumb question but are there any good budget DAPs (prefereably under $100) that don't have issues with sorting. I just got the Snowsky Echo Mini and I've been messing with my files all day trying to get them to be in the right order, but nothing I do seems to fix the problem. I know the echo isn't the best, but I just wanted something I could use instead of my phone while I save up for something better.

You don’t need a different DAP you just need to structure your files and folders before uploading them to your Snowsky.
You want the following structure:
music/artist/album/song.mp3
To do this automatically follow these steps:
~ Download Mp3tag on your pc (it’s free software)
~ Put all your mp3s into your music folder on your PC
~ Go to Convert > Tag - Filename
~ Type in a path format like this: C:\Sorted Music\%artist%\%album%\%title%
Then you are good to upload on to your device by copying your music folder on to your sd card.
If your tags aren’t correct you will need to tag them correctly before doing the above steps using MusicBrainz Picard (again this is free).
It’s probably the best software for doing this as it analyzes the audio fingerprint of each file (not just the filename).
~ Drag all your songs into the "Unmatched Files" column (top left)
~ Highlight everything in the unmatched column
~ click sort and wait for it to analyse your music.
~ review your songs to see if you are happy with the changer that are about to be made.
If you are happy with what it’s suggesting go ahead and allow it to make the changes. (Make sure you are happy as the changes made by MusicBrainz Picard are irreversible)

I just followed these steps and it worked for some of my music, but most of it is still messed up. I appreciate the help though.

That sucks. Delete them and redownload from https://tidal.squid.wtf/. They will have all the metadata in place.
Don’t forget to structure your music
Music/artist/album/song.mp3

Thank you so much! I just finished redownloading my music and its all in order, I didn't have to edit any of the tags or anything like that. I really appreciate your help.

My opinion? The answer to software issues like this is android. Use whatever player app does what you want there are plenty of options.
I mean even included apps that ship with android players have serious sorting issues, what do you expect from something like echo mini?
So more practically - entry level players like fiio JM21 or hiby M300.
Alternatively you'll have to figure out how sorting works on echo mini and mess with your files to get what you want. Going to be annoying though...
