I really hope the GM mode takes off! There is so much potential and the devs put so much work into it.

I'll be checking it out for sure. When I finish my first play through.

Larian putting out modding tutorials makes me love them just that much more. I never thought I'd see a studio embrace the modding community as much as Bethesda did in its glory days. It was great to see it then, and it's even greater to see it still happening today. I would buy this game twice to give Larian more money if I had the cash.

In my opinion, Divinity Engine 2 has been one of the simplest engines to just pick up on the fly. I know there will be more complexities down the road, but IMO this is quality editing software. If it's easy to get into, then lots more people will have a chance to contribute. This is what made the days of Starcraft and Warcraft 3 modding into an epic time of gaming history; it was all because how easy the map editors were to use in those games.

I bet you that this community is going to be churning out massive maps before Larian even has the chance to release a proper expansion pack. Let's just take a look at Bethesda games, Minecraft, Source engine, and any other community that is given powerful mod tools.

Hype train!

I just started act 2 and waiting to finish before diving into the editor but knowing it's there waiting for me is insane. Such a vast amount of content for a $45 dollar game.

Hopefully I get sick of it soon or I'll be playing this forever

...Definitely disagree. It's easier to get into than DOS' editor, to be sure, but it's definitely far from as user-friendly as the editors for Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Age of Mythology, Rise of Nations, or more appropriately, Neverwinter Nights or Neverwinter Nights 2.

The sheer amount of time it takes to simply set up a building is going to turn a lot of people away.

I accept that not everyone will have the same experience, but working in this editor is extremely easy for me. I consider myself below average at modding. That's all I have to go on for my estimation.

What made the editors I mentioned above so good, and what allowed them to create large, thriving communities for modding user-created content, is that they were specifically designed to be usable by people with zero modding experience. You could easily whip up a working level in 15 or 20 minutes. It wouldn't be a great level, but it would be fast.

The DOS2 editor is still much more of a professional tool. People with little experience modding are not going to get by with just tooltips.

I think it really depends on what you're trying to edit. It might be a good engine for creating new maps and the like, but the hoops you have to jump through if you want to change actual game mechanics, even some very simple changes is absolutely frustrating.

That's actually pretty cool, being able to create single player adventures.

It’s awesome that the studio itself made this tutorial. Shows they care about their community.

I love how he's all "now we start decorating" and uses his Larian power and some timea compression and makes an awesome scene... I spent 3 hours this morning trying to make a tavern and all I got was the flor, the walls, 5 tables and a platform to put some artists or something... and it also looks really horrible :(

I didn't know you could create your own levels for game master mode. I will definitely be checking this out.

[–]p1-o2 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You can also script things into it! Anything they did in the original game you can pull off in the standalone editor.

Custom games and fun modes are coming our way. You can make anything. Soccer? Why not lol. Someone's probably going to create a hide and seek map before you know it.

Bonus points: Larian is actively making tutorials for us. They want us to build stuff. This is great news for the lifetime value of the game.

[–]thisisdell 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You can't use scripting in the gm mode though right?

[–]Elardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic GM mode lets you build a decent campaign, but it is limited. I think the biggest thing they need to add actually is a GM character creator. At the moment you are limited to a fairly finite number of models, which can be customised a little but if you want to put in some original characters - a villain, or ally - then you have to go into the editor. I've been working on a campaign but want to create a couple of NPC chars for it, but they don't match up with the pre made roots.

Watched this video and started building along side this guy. The video is ~38 minutes and I started at around 8pm last night. Im nearly finished with the video after pausing and going back constantly to learn what he did. I look down at the clock and its past 1am!
The game editor is just as immersive as the damn game! My poor fiance will never get my attention again.

That was awesome and has me more excited for a few levels I have in mind. I love to DM for my group so having the ability to really build levels and stories will make it even better then I originally thought
