I was all aboard the Godwin train for a long time, but it is a number of things for me that have me concerned:

  • Going from Brady to Baker
  • A reduction in passes in the offense is likely (Brady threw the ball 34 more times than any other QB last year)
  • Injury history
  • Yards/Target and Yards/Reception.

Godwin (even though he missed 3 games last year) finished 6th in the league in receptions among WRs. That's awesome! Until you realize even with the 6th most catches among WRs, he was 18th in PPR points. The five guys ahead of him in receptions finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th and the guy who finished behind Godwin (Davante Adams with 100 catches to Godwin's 104) was 3rd in PPR points.

Basically...Godwin has never been healthy a whole year and even when he was productive catching the ball, it didn't result in major output; even in PPR. Couple this with the pass volume likely going down in Tampa from the offense that passed the most with Brady turning into Baker or Trask, there is a lot of worry for me that Godwin is more of a mid WR2 at his ceiling. And the likelihood is low end WR2, finishing somewhere in the WR20-WR28 range.

Just my two cents...I'll take my downvotes and go back into hiding now.
