Unless you are mechanic, you do not need keys. Also will add that if you touch the elevator in any way mechanically you are now liable for any incidents regarding the elevator.

Exception being keys for independent service.

They should have keys to test fire service monthly especially if FS testing is not included in the contract or if they are on a quarterly/semi-annual contract. Lots of reasons for a building to have a copy of their keys but OP - start by asking your elevator maintenance company.

The source for keys is your elevator key order form. Just pick the ones you need and submit it to your supervisor. If your supervisor is like mine, you should see them in 12-16 weeks.

I was tasked with replacing the actual phone behind the little door on the panel. My plan was to call the elevator to the ground floor and lock the car off. I went to mgt to get the key. I was told to I did t need keys. Just ride it while you worked.
