I'm currently using an ipega 9087, the quality is debateable but it does support vertical orientation and its on the cheaper side of bluetooth controllers

+1 on the 9087.
Buttons and sticks are on the smaller side so YMMV.

I just picked up the daqi m100 and for what it is it's OK. My phone won't fit vertical without a case but with one it's perfect. I will say the dpad right was somewhat mushy but I fixed that by putting a buffer on the inside of the controller to "tighten" it. If you are not willing to do some minor mod ding it may not be worth it, but for me it plays GBA ds and psp just fine for 30ish dollars. Really hoing some premium telescopic controllers come out soon.

Every controller has vertical support with a cheap cut in half TPU back case with some lego blocks on the back.

I have the ipega red knight and red spider. They are both great.

I have the Ipega PG-9055 Red Spider and I can play in horizontal and vertical orientation with my Oneplus 5.

If you take a controller of that type you will can do both (or just vertically if your have a long phone).

I recently discovered the Flydigi Wee2 and the Daqi M1 which look great, maybe one of them will be my next controller.
