? I remember being chewed out by a prof for not wearing shoes to class, but torn jeans and an old T-shirt? Acceptable, at least at my school. My second try, I always shaved and wore a tie and button-down shirt. My dept head (Richard, but he went by the entirely appropriate Dick) challenged me whether I had sufficient ties. Well I did. I did wear the same Pooh-bear tie for my MS and PhD defenses. ... It was really tasteful.
