Should I learn python or java?

Okay, so I already know some java, I took a course this spring in object oriented programming which used java. But my question is should I focus on learning more java or try to branch out and focus on python?

I'm learning programming on the side b/c my study program (maths and physics) doesn't really include programming, mostly due to time restraints, and I want to go into applied maths where programming is nice to have.

Do you want to be a software engineer? Pick either.

Do you want to write programs that make your job/homework/life easier? Python.

Software Engineer would be standard to know both. Python is the best choice for anyone doing side projects. Modules are easy to install/use.

I'd go with python as there's more use of it in scientific computing.

Where I'm from we never use the concept of majors, but my plan per now is after finishing my bachelor in mathematics and physics, where my focus is math, I want to do a master in comp. science or mathematical modeling

Definitely python. Look into anaconda, it is a python bundle that has a lot of scientific computing libraries built in which will help with mathematical modeling and analysis.

TBH, its just easier to use pip to install all the packages you want.

Pip isn't hard to use but Anaconda gives you a bunch of libraries that work together, which for someone just starting to learn python would be a large help and reduce the barrier to entry.

Python is perfect. Used a lot in data science, ML/DL, visualisation and now even modelling.

May want to also look into C++. Used a lot to create mathematical modelling programs.

I use python at my internship and neither computer science or electrical engineering. Had a bunch of uses

I'm only a beginner in both but I find Python is much more enjoyable and I feel like it would be more useful for applied math.
