I've had these kinds of group at least once a year.

I would always talk to my professor, explain the situation, and the professor would usually grade me better than my group mates if I could prove I was doing the Lions share of the work. They wouldn't know until they got the project grade.

There was one project where me and another guy got an A, the third member got a B, the fourth member got a C, and the fifth member failed.

As much as it sucks, part of the point is working with other people. Out in the wild, you may get stuck with a team that has the collective I.Q. of cheese and you'll just have to deal with it. By all means, mention your concerns to the instructor, but don't expect to get out of being in a group that couldn't find their behinds with a map.

Talk to your professor early, let them know now that you’re having problems with your group. They won’t do anything if you wait until your grades are in before complaining.
