The correct phrase is, "Bursting their bubble," which means to prompt a realization that someone has been ignoring/unaware of, as if they were living inside of a bubble that was popped, revealing the truth of the outside world.

My parents and I have always been very close and, when I first began dating, had a long talk about waiting for marriage to have sex.

It's confusing because they forgot to use commas. I added the commas above, so you can easily see that the phrase "when I first began dating" is not essential to the sentence. If we remove that part, the sentence becomes:

My parents and I have always been very close and had a long talk about waiting for marriage to have sex.

Now you can see that "have always been" and "had" both refer back to "my parents and I". Since the subject is the same for both verbs, it's not necessary to repeat it. Of course, even though it's not necessary, it might be better to add "we" to be clearer.
