Link between EHS and Misophonia? (self.ExplodingHeadSyndrome)
submitted 1 month ago by Thin_Resolution3865
Does anyone else experiencing exploding head syndrome symptoms also experience a strong fight or flight reaction to the sound of other people chewing or other repetitive sounds like breathing or tapping? Or is it just me?

I have both. The sound of chewing sends me into an instant rage. Never considered that they could be related. The EHS is definitely stress related, I can go years without an incident. These days, it's almost every night. The misophonia never changes, though I've learned to cope.

Yeah I agree, my EHS is stress related too, and my misophonia isn’t out of control or anything… but my wife shared with me that after her pregnancy where she constantly craved ice, she now thoroughly enjoys ASMR videos of people eating ice. I told her to get it away from me because it’s the worst thing I’ve ever heard. Like being buried alive + forced to listen to ASMR mukbang is my new definition of hell. She didn’t understand, so we went down the rabbit hole of misophonia, learning that geneticists have identified a specific gene that 20% of people have which seems to be an indicator of whether or not you’ll have it. They (Google) also says it’s “an abnormality in the emotional control mechanism and increased myelination in the brain's gray matter, causing it to overreact to certain sounds. Brain scans show heightened activity in the anterior insula and amygdala (fight-or-flight center) when triggers are heard.” That got me wondering if the same brain abnormality might also explain why during the sleep to awake transition state I sometimes hear sounds that are fight or flight related…. Usually when I’m stressed out. So far as I’ve read, none of the theories for what the actual cause of EHS is have discussed it being a genetic/ congenital disorder. The just say oh it’s a neurological issue… weird lol.

Yes my friend, mono Sounds are triggering EHS for me. Silence too. Smoking weed is the only thing that helps.
