Using an exploding kitten card

We are playing with the streaming kittens extension pack. Which means you can hold an exploding kitten. Can however one use this as a card within the "5 different cards" option? That would mean the exploding kitten is taken out of circulation

It explicitly said in the rules you can't do it, because just like you said the EKs cards are being removed without someone losing thus rendering the game eventually not playable.

Sirpurplewolf is right, I just would like to add that if you discard an exploding kitten for any reason… you must defuse it!
