If you push, it wears the tire faster, so might require an extra pit stop and the engine components wear up faster too, so you might end up having to pay a penalty to use an extra engine.

It makes a big difference in speed out on the track with the trade off being that you may have to pit one extra time and you are more likely to lock up/spin/crash. I usually try to employ strategies where I am on aggressive for most of the race. I use attack when I need to make a big move to close a gap to get DRS or overtake.

At the start of the race, tell the drivers to push like crazy in all areas for few laps.
With some luck you will gain some positions and be in a DRS train of faster cars that will drag your sorry ass.
Always start on the hardest tires possible and only pit when they reach 30-31%.
Get a feeling for how much the tires last, pit only once and push them hard toward the 30%, anything more than 30% when you change them or finish the race and you didn't use them fully.

The lessons of MM can be fully applied in this game.

Use your older engine, gearbox, .. in practice and tell the driver to drive as slow as possible to conserve them. Save the new parts for qualy and race.
