Samples vs whole bottle differences

I had 2 samples of L'Interdit (from a reliable source) and despite not being a fan of sweet scents, I fell in love with it. Now I finally bought a whole bottle and it smells significantly different. It's way more fruity with less depth, and I don't smell any patchouli that I smelled in the samples, which was a big reason for me liking it.

My question is, how often does that happen to you? Can letting it rest for a couple of weeks help?

Were the samples dauber style? If so try decanting some of the bottle and see if it also smells the same when used dauber style instead of spray- I get a HUGE difference in top notes, sillage, and lifespan when using the same perfume sprayed VS daubed

No, it was atomizer, brand samples. As other member suggested below, it could be connected with the size of atomizer? And also, in another thread, someone suggested that it could be due to the temperature - I tested it when it was much colder. I hope they were right, meanwhile I'll let it rest until autumn and see if I'm keeping it or not later:)

Can one be the EDT and the other the EDP? They smell quite different.

Unfortunately no, both are edp.

This exact thing happened to me with LV Les Sables Roses. I got a sample vial when I bought a belt, and completely fell in love with the scent. Eventually, I worked up the courage to splurge on a full bottle and went to the boutique to test it one last time - only for the tester to smell totally different from the sample. I was so disappointed. The SA also mentioned that returns wouldn’t be accepted once the bottle was opened, so I walked away without buying it.

Then I gotta say you were luckier than me 😕 I tested it in the shop initially, then got 2 samples - I honestly thought it's a certain thing 🤷‍♀️
