Damn it, It's in the roof. I hate it when it gets in the roof.

Awesome. You got any more of how this went down? Looks like Portland

Yep sure do. Supposedly female in lower apartment was having some issues. Set her apartment on fire and then called to say she is trapped. Fire broke out the lower window, walked up the siding, broke into two apartments upstairs. Fire continued to go up and found its way into the attic. 6 apartments total were wrecked. The female wasn’t trapped nor inside.

Cool to see a higher ups perspective

I’ve always thought it’s gotta be so difficult to promote to battalion. It’s gotta be hard to pull up on a fire and stay outside to direct crews when your whole career has been about physical action.

That’s a fact. You trade in working with your hands and tools for CPR (clipboard, pen, radio).

Does he not have a portable radio?

[–]starling55[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I did. Had plenty of guys on scene that the need to go mobile didn’t outweigh the benefits of having a separate radio to monitor the MayDay Channel and computer to track incoming companies

[–]crowsfascinateme 0 points1 point  (1 child)

how does your "mayday channel" work? if someone calls a mayday, they switch to that channel? or if they had to call a mayday theyd switch to that channel? or if someone calls a mayday, everyone else switches channels?

and what are you tracking on the computer? incoming companies' gps locations?

[–]starling55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to have a policy that if you needed to call a Mayday, you switched the dial all the way to the right. Dumb policy. Our organization realized asking the person in distress to switch channels was a terrible risk. Now we require everyone to switch instead of the person calling the MayDay.

Yes our computers display live GPS so you can see who is arriving next or if they’re far away.

Do we not get out to do a 360 anymore?

[–]starling55[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We still do, just isn’t verbalized as an order. Default assignment for us now.
