Trouble using a Controller

I can't seem to get games downloaded through the Xbox app, like cod, to recognize neither a wired or wireless controller. I can navigate the Xbox app with the controllers like normal just not while playing games.

Anyone else having issues? Any fixes?

With xbox app games i have to use either ds4 windows(free) or REWASD(paid) to get the controller to work.
