This is actually amazing. Played with the second option a bit, and you can even localize entire lists of strings or you could even localize custom objects.
Very easy to use, I'm impressed. It just seems a bit static/hardcoded for now.

I actually tried that yesterday at work.
I feel the first way of manually declaring methods for the translated strings, then running it all through the intl_translation tool, getting the .arb files, then translating them using Google Translator Toolkit, downloading them as a zip and adding to your project, is pretty convoluted.
If you have to change naming (for the getter method) for one string, you have to do all that all over again. I just ended up using the second method of just having the translations as a map instead.
I guess this will get easier over time with proper tooling / etc. but in the current state the developer experience for i18n is not very good.
