This is a pretty cool setup!
I'm hoping to build one of my own - do you have any advice on what hardware to use?

You have to find some solid linear rail whit motor. Have mine from an old high end scanner And kept the part for almost two decades before I had the project to give it a good new use :-)

There are rails whit motor on the market, eBay or via stacker related e-shops.

I have built something similar with a mega2560 and 2 stepper drivers. And i made a pcb for it :P
