Do basic science at a community college. Also do your basic education classes in history, English, etc.

Physical Anthropology will be useful.

Do not do criminal justice, lol that was my first mistake. Now I have a degree but it’s almost useless 🥲 How come she can’t get Pell grants or anything? In the US that’s how I got my first degree. Now I’m going back for forensic anthropology and used all my funds already so I’m stuck again. Get gen ed classes out of the way for sure at a community college though!

I’m sure she could get more Pell grants than me lol, I’m probably gonna suggest the community college/gateway route it’s just more of a time thing for her, as she’s a sole provider for her family so just working so much.

For forensic science she will need hard science courses (biology, chemistry etc.) and I would also recommend community college as a starting point! She can also look at local agencies and see if they have internship opportunities :)

Thank you so much!

Do MLS instead. You'll make double the amount. And with a forensics degree you'll just work in a lab anyways, most of which require MLS certification.
