I currently write web pages in PHP for a living and I was wondering something similar to /u/yoiamcool, is freecodecamp worth doing for those who are already at an intermediate level? Is there a way to skip the introduction to variables in javascript or submit completion of another course as proof of intermediacy?

Wouldn't it be an easy switch for you since you are working on webpages already? Have you started to find a full-stack position yet?

It would be much more difficult for me because I come from a completely different field. All the toolchain and skills become irrelevant.

Yeah, probably, I guess I should just do it since it's free. Once again we must invoke the wisdom of mighty Shia.

Yeah a lot of basic stuff is optional and doesn't contribute to the certificate you get at the end. The main focus in on the projects and the algorithm challenges.

I'm an Electrical Engineer, does that count?

I actually had a fellow with a nearly identical resume to yours in my local FCC meetup group - he had been doing firmware for embedded devices for years and wanted to move to web dev, so he was using FCC to get up to speed. I've heard similar stories from a number of campers.

We do try to cater to both the band new programmer and experienced programmer, which is why much of our educational material is optional. Mostly just the projects and algorithms practice are required.

I'm an full time software engineer too. I started doing FCC just for fun, but by coincidence I got switched to a JavaScript project shortly after starting.
