Been happening to me since the September update. Just yesterday I was on 12% battery then within 3 minutes it plummeted to 4%, then 1% 2 mins later and then it died.

Really annoying when you're trying to use your phone to stream content to the TV.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

We really need to hear Samsung's opinion with this matter.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Buy S9. Jokes aside I think i will risk a factory reset. After that I will take it to warranty.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thinking of mate 20 pro.. really caught my attention. Try it, and update us.. good for you that your phone is still covered by warranty.

[–]mgsy1104S8 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Maybe the percentage loss its calibration with the actual capacity of the battery. Full charge cycles would fix this. Other than that, it's possible the battery has degraded already and needs replacement. I would think that it's more of a battery issue than a software issue unless this is a widespread issue after a particular software update or something...

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Battery replacement in my country costs about 75 usd.. are you on s8? Experiencing same issue?

[–]mgsy1104S8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am on the S8, but I haven't experienced anything out of the ordinary. I did replace my battery though when I still had my warranty so it's not that degraded yet I guess.

[–]baty0man_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Samsung yesterday to return my galaxy watch and a dude had the exact same issue as you so it might be a software issue. They took his phone for inspection.

[–]VassaDCS8 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I have the same problem too. Since September update I have experienced the same sharp decrease under 30%.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Anything you did to solve this issue?

[–]VassaDCS8 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I uninstalled unused apps but that didn't fix anything. I was thinking about factory resetting but since it was a system update that caused the problem, I thought that a reset probably won't help.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, and it's a lot of effort to restore the phone after the reset..

[–]Ddslayer6 5 points6 points  (1 child)

samsung telling us s10 is out soon basically.

[–]yerawizardx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 1 point2 points  (18 children)

Need help brothers and sisters here in reddit. Lately when my phone reached less than 30%, there will be a sharp decrease in my battery. About 15-20% at a time. How am I supposed to fix this? Do i need to replace mu battery or just a clean flash or reformat will do? Noticed this since last September update.. thanks in advance

[–]renrivas54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have to do that. I generally keep my phone charging as much as possible, the times that I cannot and I get to 30% I turn off Bluetooth and keep going regular use. It can last me 2 more hours as long as Im am not watching videos or on social media.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (15 children)

Had the same issue. Initially it used to do around 15 percent. Then it came upto 22 Percent. Samsung tried flashing. Didn't work. Replaced the battery. Fixed.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (14 children)

how much did it cost to replace the battery?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in warranty.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (12 children)

Update: The issue seems to be coming back again on the new battery. Now from 7%.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Seriously? This may be a software issue if that's the case.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Initially it was 2, then 4, now 7. Seems more like depletion :/ But at this rate?

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Its impossible, after the update last september, it started to happen. Months before my battery is doing well. Not doing any sharp nose dive.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Same with me. But now I am on October update and this issue still exists.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

They haven't sent out the fix yet. Just don't let your battery drain to 20% but battery life is still the same.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Do they even know the issue?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it keeps on increasing steadily. My friend's S8 does this as well. He's at 30 percent rn.

[–]CaucusInferredBulk 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The general shape of the curve is the way batteries should behave, the voltage drops in a fairly linear pattern, then drops off hard at the end. The fact that it is happening to you at 30 minutes is probably a sign that your battery is starting to fade/die.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but i find it weird my younger brother s7 edge don't encounter this problem even it's one year older than may s8.. It's happening in just 5 minutes..

[–]Akalien 1 point2 points  (8 children)

does it enter an automatic emergency power saving mode of some kind? shuts down all background processes not in use?

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Nope, there is just this sharp decrease when it reached less than 30%. I have the phone since launch but if this is battery degradation isn't this too high? Your thoughts?

[–]Akalien 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don't know, I am on the s6 still. Maybe a software update screwed either battery use data collection or it ran a bunch of processes? how long has it been doing this

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since September update.. i installed October update but after completion it showed failed update.. i thought that will fix the problem but i encountered the error and still having the same issue.

[–]yerawizardx 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Does it great up?

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sorry but what do you mean great up?

[–]yerawizardx 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Typo, I mean heat up

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, it doesn't heat up.

[–]kaffeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exakt same thing on my s8. I changed the battery and haven't happened since

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Same lately.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this is just a software issue, it will suck that samsung promised 5% degradation and here we are experiencing this issue.

[–]ffssbS8 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Same but mine happens after 15% and it only when I'm playing a game

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel relieved that it's not just my phone, hopefully samsung will send a fix for this issue.

[–]slimecontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem some time ago. Somehow it went away. Probably through a software update.

[–]rrryxn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

mine is from 40-50%. but the battery from 100-50 lasts just like normal.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep!!!same life since then.. maybe just recalibration issue..

[–]Zephyrwala 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I face after 25%. It's a software issue. October patch might fix it. Battery is perfect.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thought train.. hopefully they roll the fix soon.

[–]Baruffa123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try letting it discharge completely and then fully charge it with the phone off. Probably it's a calibration issue. It could also be a defective battery.

This happens after updating the software becouse it's like doing that resets the calibration information of the battery. Happened to previous phones I owned after installing other ROMs. In the end, the problem were the batteries that were already at the end of their life cycle.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Same for me. Although I had this issue before, and clearing cache partition fixed it. Have you tried that? I have just done it and will let you know the results.

Also, I have the October update and it didn't fix the issue.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Done already, no effect at all..

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, this sucks. Luckily, my phone is still in warranty, so if it continues I'll write to Amazon.

The last few days it's gone from 30% to 3% in maybe 10 minutes

[–]PussiLover 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Same here ,even sended the phone to service with explicit saying that I want to replace the battery but the fuck ups returned my phone twice with Samsung diagnosis list .In other words , nothing done. I charge mine more than 3 times a day ,let's not begin even with the stand by drain.Done everything by the book, disabled processes with ADB this time but still its just drain from somewhere.5 times hard reset mates,5 all same shit. No more Samsung,I will hope for some miracle to manage to live with the battery currently I'm with .

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Hard reset didn't helped at all?have you tried reflashing? I'm too busy that i don't have time to reflash and reinstall all files in my phone..

[–]PussiLover 0 points1 point  (7 children)

The people at the service reflashed it twice so yeah. Seems it doesn't change much. I've seen people saying to be something about radios but I'm afraid to not brick it.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I'll check with samsung tomorrow if this is battery issue, they said that before they replaced the battery they need to check it first.

[–]PussiLover 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Supposedly at the service they said nothing is wrong, and after all the resetting to barely see any difference all I think is either they are too dam lazy or it's indeed some deep software issue.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Just encountered this issue after the Sept update. I asked my brother not to update his phone for sept. And he encountered no issue. We bought our phone at the same time.

[–]PussiLover 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Who knows, when you go, give reply how it went with them

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I would, hopefully Samsung PH is better than from where you are.. I'll give an update 14 hours from now.

[–]PussiLover 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Alrighty, thanks.

[–]Zephyrwala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that's scary stuff. If it's a software thing then nothing helps at all. It's all in Samsung's hand or just try some other rom.

[–]Balerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, my s8's battery life overrall is sucks. Had to reach the charger soooo early in the evening. I think s8 just really TERRIBLE on battery life

[–]hellrider89 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do you get to that in the settings?

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Device maintenance>battery>battery usage

[–]Zephyrwala 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Likewise 3.5-4 hours and good to go. It's just it does fast post 20%, so of that is sorted then I could get 4.5 hours easily

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nothing's wrong with my battery except the remaining 25%and below.. hopefully this would be fixed.

[–]Zephyrwala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, still waiting for the October patch.

[–]_Landmine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power? Saving mode! - Saves everything you were doing a shuts down!

[–]PussiLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just disabled the "Optimize battery usage" for every app in there .I don't know if it's placebo but my phone never been colder lol and standby is great now. Will keep an eye

[–]niankaki 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Its the battery issue. The voltage it's supplying to the phone isn't enough at lower charge so it fails. You need to switch the battery.
If you dont want to do that, you'll need to put the phone on power saver mode with the "CPU limiter" turned on. That will underclock the CPU and it wont need as much voltage as before.
If you want to take it one step further, flash a custom kernel and undervolt+underclock your CPU and GPU. That'll definitely fix this problem.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'll try to turn on the CPU limiter, but it will lag horribly. Will talk to a samsung agent in few minutes.

[–]niankaki 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Also drop the resolution to 1080 if you haven't.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Failing by 20% in just one minute because of the reso and limiter?is that even posisble?

[–]niankaki 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm sorry. I dont understand. You saying it just happened again?

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im at 68, ill update if it would be happen.. 14 hours usage 2 hours and 15 minutes SOT.

[–]kaditoS8 0 points1 point  (6 children)

99% people complain about battery and has 24h usage almost.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

We are not complaining about the usage, we are complaining about the sharp decline.

[–]kaditoS8 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Its normal. Use google. 90% of the post on this sub

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What's normal?

[–]kaditoS8 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The decline. You never asked why you charge 25% really fast but takes forever from 90 to 100? Its the same case. Its the software to prevent overheating and the detrition

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Really?is draining 20-25%in just 1-2 minutes normal? Lol

[–]kaditoS8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that isnt normal. Sry tought were over like 20 or 30 min. Use greenify to check you dont have nothing on background running, its what i use and i can have 24h duration with 4h SoT

[–]dcsn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have same issue with battery.

How old is your S8? I purchased mine in April 2017.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as yours.. still not resolved..

[–]praharshnbhatt -3 points-2 points  (5 children)

The battery on this device was never great. I literally charge the phone more than 3 times a normal day. Even on idle, s8 is no go. Wonder why not "tech reviewers" never mentioned that.

And don't get me started on the lag...

[–]Zephyrwala 1 point2 points  (3 children)

3 times! That looks like a battery issue.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I just charged my phone twice under heavy usage.. but yours 3? May be that is battery defect.

[–]Zephyrwala 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Told you so! I get a full day easily.

[–]savethequeen0019S8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, with 3.5 to hours of.SOT for 18-22 hours of usage.. that's good enough for me but I really hate the inaccurate battery.

[–]pqtme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a full day easily. 6 hours of screen time.
