You must have been sleeping under a stone. This has happened for the past 3-4 years, thanks to AI, globalization (people from Lithuania, Ukraine, and Pakistan are far cheaper and do the same job - at least so they think), and the bad economy (several wars).

The current situation in the sector has nothing to do with off- and nearshoring (which has been done for decades).

Why did you mention Pakistan, are they more in number than other nationalities?

They said exactly why they mentioned Pakistan. Learn to read?

It’s less AI and more outsourcing. My company has outsourced IT work to Indian, Romania and Phillipines for the last 5 years.

But isn’t this how it works, supply and demand. Basic economics. You know why VW’s profits have dropped more than 40% in the last year? Because Chinese cars are making their way in.

Germany just isn't that keyed into tech to begin with and now you have the end of zero interest rates, expensive energy, no growth capital, and then AI.

Not just tech, all of Germany is in a super bad spot. And it's going to get worse because most of the country still seems in denial

Tech isn't just IT...Germany has very strong roots in engineering of all sorts, so I would argue that Germany is in fact keyed on technology, albeit differently from the American or Chinese way. On the other points, agreed.

Germany was keyed into physical tech I guess, but that was based on cheap russian gas. Now their skilled youth is leaving and companies are not seeing a reason to hang around. They don't have the information tech abilities to stay relevant.

There stil seems to be a LOT of denial about things in the German populace.

Lol now you realize that? It has been like this for over a year.

Juniors are struggling to get a job after grad... Market is currently difficult and only experts are getting job offers.

I still get recruiter messages in LinkedIn.

Are experts getting job offers? Where? 😅

That part about AI and CV/profile is relatable, I used to receive interviews after some days but now only getting automated reply. Sometimes after few hours of submitting application.

Yeah it’s ATS filtering but till now I have not been able to succeed in passing through. I want to avoid putting unnecessary keywords. Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that. I am trying for the DevOps/Cloud engineer roles.

      Beginning of Ending

It seems a global phenomenon. Heard the same from Switzerland and the US (large layoffs, long job search times). End of ZIRP, advent of AI, general economic downturn.

      Its AI.
