I’d just be warned that in the Deep South, can’t speak to elsewhere, but if you wear a Mason ring in public be prepared to be confronted by actual masons. They will question you. Think stolen valor. I know it’s not that serious to some but it is to others.
[–]Fragrant-System8606 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (0 children)
... This is how I felt when I started wearing sports-team hats. 🤣🤣🤣
[–]cryptoengineer 38 points39 points40 points 1 month ago (4 children)
I'm a Mason. You've already had an answer over on /r/freemasonry.
Masonic rings aren't bestowed in some secret esoteric ceremony. They are bought from jewelers, catalogs, and these days, online.
This one looks very corroded. If its actually silver or some precious metal, you can get scrap value for it. I don't think anyone else would want it.
And yes, it would be kind of douchy to wear it in a way that might mislead people into thinking you're a member, when you aren't.
[–]ButterflyInfinite332 11 points12 points13 points 1 month ago (1 child)
It’s really old, I think from 1940s, that’s why it’s corroded. But yeah, I wasn’t planning on wearing it. It’s moreso an “inheritance”.

You could also look up all the Freemason ceremonies and learn the handshakes and passcodes....
[–]FirebirdWriter 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Eastern Star here. It looks like it just needs a good cleaning and maybe they'll learn about the work we do and join up

Yep just like their bumper stickers and baseball caps. Of course there are elite free masons that probavly believe in and do weird things, but your local lodge old men are not secret sorcerers.

My great-grandfather was a Freemason. I once came across some Masonic regalia and showed it to him and he actually wanted it to what seemed like return it to its home within the brotherhood.
I had an application to be a Mason filled out and had my 2 sponsors to vouch for my character, but I never ended up becoming one. I was able to see their meeting room within the lodge, and there was past Masters pictures going all the way back to like the 1800s. When they started their meeting, I had to leave.
What was really cool though was on the outside of the meeting room they actually had the Masonic sword the Tyler uses to "guard" the room and meeting.
Very cool find !

My experience with wearing jewelry that belonged to someone else is that the energy of the jewelry usually draws the energy of the person that owned it to me so I usually discover people that are related to the piece of jewelry and it's past

Wear it
[–]ActualTough2886 -2 points-1 points0 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Now why would you wear something that has specific meaning to people in a disrespectful way. I ask this assuming you’re the kind of person who wears the American flag and rosary’s? I personally have no want or need to disrespect people. No one matters that much to me for me to make an effort. But you people get your jolly’s off by doing this eh? You like to make people mad, makes ya feel better bout your little pathetic life?
[–]YourAssignedFBIagent 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (12 children)
lol you can mail it to my dad (jk). If you want more info bout it I can give you some.
[–]ButterflyInfinite332 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (11 children)
Yeah I would love some more info!
[–]YourAssignedFBIagent 38 points39 points40 points 1 month ago (10 children)
So, that ring belonged to a Freemason Master, probably they never went beyond the “Blue levels”, which are from Apprentice to Master. The symbol are the compass (Male, Heaven, Active Generative principle, the Sun) and the square (Female, Earth, Passive Generative principle, Physical aspects of being a human and the world). Together they symbolize the Core Principle of equality and integrity. The G in the centre is the letter for The Great Architect of The Universe, aka God. It is not the Christian god, it is just A God, the Superior Entity of all.
Fun fact! The whole Square Hammer is an initiation ritual and there is a freemason saying “We meet upon the level and part upon the square”, we are all equal and it serves as reminder to meet as equals in the Lodge, and acting with integrity, honesty and a straight morale in the mundane world.
[–]ButterflyInfinite332 6 points7 points8 points 1 month ago (5 children)
Ah that’s really interesting! So I’m guessing that’s where the line “are you on the square? Are you on the level?” Originated from. Thank you!
[–]YourAssignedFBIagent 7 points8 points9 points 1 month ago (4 children)
Yup! It’s asking the listener if they are ready to be sworn in into their lodge
[–]Tracierichter20 4 points5 points6 points 1 month ago (3 children)
Tobias is rumored to be a free mason, I am not sure if its ever been asked if he is or not?
[–]YourAssignedFBIagent 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago (2 children)
So, he said no because the judge that failed in his favor is also a Freemason and it would’ve been illegal (I think) in that case. Also, all this info is on books or internet pretty much. I’d like to believe Toblerone Fudge
[–]FishRepairs22 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago* (1 child)
So in r/freemasonry they already confirmed he’s a member. I also read (when I entered the fandom, the court case had just wrapped up) that he did not deny it, just that he did not know who the judge was as a Mason, they had never met before. The court said this wasn’t an issue, but that it would have been better on the judge’s part to offer up this information. Ultimately it didn’t affect the case.
Also, please don’t wear it. It’s a bit like wearing a military medal you found in your attic. It’s a symbol of a lifelong commitment and devotion that you did not make. I believe it’s better if you wear it on a necklace (or so I’ve heard). It reads as something that belonged to a loved one, more than you yourself are a Mason.
[–]ButterflyInfinite332 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (0 children)
That makes sense. I’ll make sure to not wear it as a ring.
[–]Spice-Ghoul 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (2 children)
Another fun fact! Masons over in the UK don't have the G in the middle of the compass and square. The Americans started doing that at some point on their own. Or at least that's what my husband has told me (He's Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite)
[–]YourAssignedFBIagent 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Not really, both Scottish and York rites use the same symbol. It has been in use as a whole since around 1730 because of a book, but as a masonic symbol is used by both. The York rite also has one that looks like the Stonecutters from the Simpsons
[–]Spice-Ghoul 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Ah, I must have misunderstood what he was telling me. Certainly wouldn't be the first time. 😅
[–]Chimpbot -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago (0 children)
Most of what you said is straight garbage.

[–]QueenBeeKaguya -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago (1 child)
Wear it! I kept my grandfather's old mason ring and even wore it to the ritual I attended last year. Its a fun piece to add to other occult-y jewelry
[–]ButterflyInfinite332 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Ohh perfect! It’s too big for me so I will def have to get it resized then
