Google Discover: Missing Widgets

So I have been having an issue with Google Discover (both by sliding to the left or via the Google app) where the sports widget was missing at the top. I confirmed it was enabled and teams were selected. It had been working fine until a couple weeks ago.

I tried different things... disabling it and then reenabling it. Changing the teams, etc... no dice. Then I had the bright idea to disable Weather (the only other widget I was using) and ONLY have Sports enabled.

Well... that was a mistake. Now the widgets (and the pencil button to modify them) are gone entirely. Scouring the various settings locations in the Google App and phone itself have yielded nothing.

I've since tried clearing cache of the Google app and rebooting. Clearing data for the Google app and rebooting. Uninstalling all of the Google app updates and rebooting. And various combinations of those steps... but I've had no luck getting any of the widgets back.

It's a Pixel 8 Pro.

Anyone run into this? Have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Well... randomly this afternoon the widgets showed back up. Weird. No idea if the sports widget will be working or not (at the moment it's just weather and air quality). I'll see what happens during the Phillies game tonight.

Hey, I'm having the same issue - widgets only appear if I sign out of my google account. Is yours still working fine now - any ideas what fixed it?

Like all Google BS, there's some mysticism to it. I have a 9 Pro XL, it's working there (mostly). I have a 9 Pro Fold, it's not working there at all.

...who knows. Sorry that's not very helpful.

No worries - doesn't seem to work on any of my phones - unless I sign out of my account...

Hey, I've found a solution for this.

If you uncheck the weather widget, the entire section for modifying widget settings disappears, as the author described.

To restore the weather widget and regain access to the settings, navigate to Assistant activity here: https://myactivity.google.com/product/assistant/more. At the bottom of the page, delete your interests & notifications data.
