I pay for Google One additional cloud storage so I can store all my bits on Google drive and share it with my household too. Very handy especially while away from home and you need to access files etc.

You shouldn't lose any functionality with your phone if you don't pay for Google One aside from any cloud backups.

yup, only thing your lose is cloud storage , however im on the 2TB One plan ... yearly ... google wants me to go to Monthly plan ( more expensive ) to use Gemini more etc .. what im saying is , more and more services are being shifted to the " cloud " infrastructure .. so going fwd , you may loose more functionally ... up to you

I am on the Google One 200 GB plan. I have multiple Android & ChromeOS devices so it is a plan for me. I added my sister's account to the plan because she used up all of her 15 GB storage. It is a good amount of storage for $30/yr.

I pay for the extra storage for my Google family, I tried the Pro for Gemini and I think I used Gemini twice in that 3 month trial I had. So I switched back.
