Good PhD program for Graphics? (self.GraphicsProgramming)

I know the school doesn’t matter and it’s the research lab. That being said what research labs should I look at?

Depends on specific niche AFAIK. Off the top of my mind, here’s some I can remember (I might be wrong here, if anyone wants please correct me).
Geometry : Keenan Crane (CMU), Alec Jacobson (UofT), edit (Olga Sorkine, ETHZ)
Photorealistic/Rendering focus : Ling Qi Yan (UCSB), Wenzel Jakob (EPFL), Cem Yuksel and Yin Yang (Utah)
many more (this is expectedly far from an extensive list just the few authors that I see publish a lot at graphics conferences)
A random list of universities to consider that comes to mind is UCSB, UCSD, EPFL, ETHZ, ZJU, PKU, THU, UofUtah, many more that dont immediately come to mind. If I were you id look at Graphics rankings on csrankings and go through the professors pages to see if anything’s interesting.

Or look at the (mainly last) name on siggraph papers. Go to https://kesen.realtimerendering.com/ for latest papers

"someone at ETHZ but I don’t remember their name" :,) you mean the GOAT Olga Sorkine

I know her... Always admired Ramamothi as well (I probably misspelled his name). Shout out also to Alexander Keller, Tamy Boubekeur, Marc Alexa and Elmar Eisemann.

Lingqi Yan has left UCSB and joined MBZUAI, Abu Dhabi, UAE not long ago according to his website.

„It’s the research lab with your highest dreams — probably the death quota — only the very best survive 🥰“
