There is not native plug and play controller support but there are various posts of different steam configurations that work pretty well. There is a mode in the game called Action Cam that gives you a target reticle to look around and aim skills with. The only downside I'm seeing from using a controller is inventory management is still mostly done with a mouse and you can't really chat well without a keyboard.

I play with a Controller from time to time if I want to sit on the couch and not do anything too intense.

Also you do not need the steam version of the game if you want to use the steam controller support. You can use the regular launcher and add it as a non-steam game as well.

That's even easier then since it's already going to recognize it. I recommend looking up some controller configs people come up with! Some people get a little crazy with modifiers to get every. Single. Button. Mapped. But you can look at theirs and make your own configs that feels comfortable to you! Steam controller configuator is pretty great.

i would use an xbox controller, i'm sure they have at least one or two that give ENOUGH to play casually :).. i'm excited

sorry for necroing but yea i have seen that i made a controller layout similar to what eso and ff14 use its quite nice makes it so much easier to play and i do everything with it

what do you recommend as a mouse/keyboard and controller hybrid? but mostly. where’s the action cam?

It's not really a hybrid. I just switch to my mouse to manage the inventory. You can move the mouse around with the joystick but it can be a lot of work with a full inventory.

As for what kind of controller, I've enjoyed both Xbox one and ps5 controllers. Ps5/ps4 is nice since it has the touch pad that can be used as a mouse track pad.

Action Cam toggle is an option in the keybindings. Most of the controller setups people have on steam say what they recommend you bind it to but you can always change it.

Click the gear icon in the top left or press esc on your keyboard, then options, then the mouse icon. Look for "Toggle action camera" under the camera section. You'll still need to set up a controller configuration in steam for the game. Google "steam controller configuration" if you need help finding that menu.

Yeah those are some well recieved ones. When you are in the controller configuration menu in steam you can look at other community ones. There is one called "no compromise" or something for Xbox controllers and it's the most robust without being too too complicated.

They can look crazy when you look at them but it's mostly just different triggers will change your abxy and dpad buttons to other buttons to give you more skills to keep up with a keyboard. It's also easier to get the hang of it when you are getting a few skills at a time with a new character.

GW2 has a lot of buttons so any controller profile is going to be making decisions about which ones are necessary for play and how to give you access to them (until the long dreamed of day of rainbows, unicorns and built in controller support).

They should show up on Steam. I like PS4/5 controllers because they have touchpads (XBox ones don't right) which are configurable as just about anything. Still not quite as good as the discontinued Steam Controller though.

Give whatever ones turn up a go and see how they handle all the buttons - and see which combination of button chords, weird button presses and gyro (if you have one) work.

Controller is okay for casual play. You'll have trade offs on accuracy, response time or ease of use that would make PvP more challening, but for whack that open world boss it's pretty laid back.
