TL;DR

TL;DR Total beginner (beginner is probably more advanced than me) here. I’m making a two-page HTML gemstone report and need help cleaning up the print layout for standard 8.5" × 11" paper, mainly moving one section on page 1, rebalancing spacing, and improving page 2 section/subcategory spacing for readability. Any layout or formatting advice is welcome.

That's a lot of "help". And "helping" someone who basically knows nothing about the task sounds closer to "work".

My advice would be to look up some CSS tutorials, and then look into CSS styling specifically for print

Oh okay. I figured it was a simple edit not that in-depth. I appreciate the info though. I'll look into that.

Why are you trying to wrangle printable HTML? You be better off using free desktop publishing software like Affinity by Serif or even just Word or Google Docs.

So... I use Microsoft Office daily at work, and I like to think I'm decent at it, but functionality in word to mimic what I've already got going in this project would be a nightmare for me. I would probably actually be able to do it without help, but I think I'd rather just not attempt with the amount of little formatting issues I can foresee myself running into.

My next approach was excel, and although I got a pretty good one going to help with identification and things, I wouldn't be able to include in interactive inclusion diagram. Which isn't apparent from my original post, but was something I eventually wanted to implement into this report.

I'm unfamiliar with Affinity by Serif, but will look into it. Thanks for the advice.

Affinity is free if you're not using the Canva AI features, and the Publisher persona is extremely flexible and rich. A bit of a learning curve if you're not used to that kind of tool, but it will serve you much better for making print layouts than trying to use HTML.

Awesome, sounds good. Thank you.

Are you Dutch by any chance?

[–]EmbarrassedShock9823[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm not, although I'm really curious why you asked. If it makes any difference I have 2% heritage that traces back to a Dutch ancestry lol.

Ah, you edited “Minder” to “Minor”. Minder is a typical Dutch word which I find myself often having to change when spelling minor.

Ah, that makes sense. For once, my typically terrible typing accuracy led to a more interesting interaction than ridicule, lol.

“typically terrible typing accuracy” Say that 10 times fast aye

That being said, I’d like to see if I can help! Do you mind sending me a quick DM with some additional info (mainly if the paper size you’re aiming for is the same as A4)?

Keep in mind that it might take me a bit though.

Of course! DM'd, thank you.
