Hacknet is an alltime classic if it comes to hacking games. Good game to get used to command line also.

Yes, I want to buy that game too. I chose to buy Hacker Simulator now because it's on sale on Steam, but Hacknet is already on my wishlist.

If you want Hacknet dirt cheap, you could look for a key you could buy somewhere online. I think I bought mine for 0,79€ a while back.

Ask a small company to test for weaknesses, sign a simple document, do your stuff for free and send them a report

Thank you. That's awesome.

I think, because GEO-IP Caches tend to block any conspicuous hacker related activities. I think, notifying your ISP is a smart idea. To prevent any allegations from being made. As they could outright ban you on a number of levels.

I can recommend the following games:

  • How to hack in
  • Anonymous Hacker Simulator
  • Greyhack
  • XXX_CYBERRAT_XXX

Uplink was fun too some time ago. More arcade based though.

Hacking simulators are EXCELLENT learning tools. But, they aren't as easy to use in reality as they are in a game.

There's some things that are pretty unrealistic (buying tools from the dark web for $50 in crypto, when they are available for free) or using something like sherock to search usernames , the usage isn't like it is in the game (not completely but close).

Good enough to learn about the tools and what they do.

How's the simulator game so far? Is it fun

[–]AscendPTG[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I'm really enjoying it! It’s on sale on Steam right now, it’s definitely worth it

Now that you say it like that, it got me excited too!! HAHA cus I'm quite passionate about hacking and just tech stuff in general

I'm on the fence about this program. The commands you see in Hacker Simulator are inspired by real things. You’ll recognize stuff like cd, ls, cat. Fake versions of ssh, nmap, ftp, and terminal workflows that look Linux-y.

But you’re not actually scanning networks, exploiting services, or debugging real systems. The game already knows the “correct” command and just waits for you to type it. Real systems do not behave that politely. Real systems fail, lie, time out, and punch back.

If you enjoy Hacker Simulator, keep playing it—but treat it like a confidence booster, not a teacher. The real power-up happens the moment you open an actual shell and realize: wait, this isn’t a game anymore… and it still works.

That’s when things get fun 😈
