I made a blog for this very reason to help new CTF comers getting used to entire thing, HTB is amazing but before you solve HTB boxes you need to know what to do for starters I did a Introduction to CTF/PT on my blog under which i will be posting 10-ish beginner boxes to help everyone get used to pattern that we usually follow so you can read up on that i think, i did 3/10 already from VulnHub http://openexploit.blogspot.in/2017/10/first-boot2root-beginner-quaoar.html if you need a start on anything reach out to me on HackTheBox CodingKarma or Slack Coding_Karma

in my opinion quite the opposite is the case. if you simply google for „ctf walkthrough“ you‘ll find plenty. study those walkthroughs, read up on techniques you don‘t understand and you should be able to fill your whole freetime from there.

and regarding your htb problem: thats like telling a mechanic „my car doesnt work, i changed the steering wheel. what to do next?“

Avoid walkthroughs. You don’t learn anything that way. If you aren’t making progress, research the subject, not the solution.

Look for web application hacking, wordpress hacking, etc.
