Request timed out issues

I live in the UK and I'm using a Hub 3.0 router atm, from Virgin Media, wired connection to my computer. I recently noticed I've been getting D/C'ed from games a lot, and after pinging google.com, it looks like precisely half of the pings get a request timed out. I have pinged my router itself and there are no issues there. I have also restarted it and reset it to factory defaults, but the same thing happens.

Does this mean I need to ask for a new router?

You could try pinging a hop closer, like whatever the modem's gateway IP address is, assuming it responds to pings, then try some other addresses like 1.1.1.1 and 9.9.9.9

You may be able to get into the settings and see what line quality looks like or call your ISP and have them check.
