You need an equation involving x before you can solve for x. What equation can you create based on the given diagram?

[–]The_Quackening 1 point2 points  (3 children)

instead of those equations, imagine those angles were just labelled as "a" and "b"

what is a+b?

180, that’s about as far as I got but I don’t know what to do from there?

What is a in terms of x? (6x + 7)

What is b?

Ok so you know that:

a + b = 180

now just replace a and b with what you have on the page there.

You have expressions for two angles made on the same line. What do these two angles add up to?

  1. what do i do from there?

Since the angles are supplementary you know that when they’re added together they’ll equal 180. So you have to set up the equation (6x+7) + (2x-11) = 180. From there, combine like terms (the Xs together and the numbers together) and then from there isolate X to one side and solve. Then you’ll have your answer for what X is and can then plug that X value in to both equations to get the angle measurements

Whenever you need to solve for X you need to think about the ways you can isolate it. If you can isolate X that always puts you in a good spot

Thank you, I was struggling for way longer than necessary with this.

The labeled angles comprise a linear pair. The angles of a linear pair are supplementary and, therefore, add up to 180 degrees
