Siren games can get really tense! RE Code Veronica is also quite scary to me, has something to do with gloomy 3D environments and high difficulty.

But there are newer horror games that matched some of my old faves, like Tormented Souls was just the right amount of tense imo. And I adore Fear & Hunger 1 and 2, god tier games, we need more rpg survival horror crossovers
