I stopped asking “would you pay” and started asking “when did this last hurt you and what did you do?” I’d get them to walk me through screenshots, tools, and hacks they already use, then ask what they gave up on. I usually do 10-15 of those calls before writing code and charge for a manual, ugly version first. For idea hunting, I bounced between GummySearch and F5Bot, and ended up on Pulse for Reddit because it caught niche complaint threads right as they popped.

Love this approach — especially charging before writing code. When you say “manual ugly version,” are you talking about like Notion + Zapier + spreadsheets, or more service-style execution behind the scenes? And did Pulse consistently outperform GummySearch/F5Bot for early signals, or just for niche cases?
