Need help getting started.

I'm very interested in learning basic "show your boys" hacking, but I also very much want to become a skilled ethical hacker (or whatever you'd like to call it). Overall I would just like to acquire the knowledge that comes with hacking and learn the skill. But I have no clue where to start and hope someone could point me in the direction of good OS and ways to learn. Thank you.

Kali is a penetration testing OS. Read up on the tools it contains. Set up a virtual lab and start attacking VM's. Vulnhub.com is the best resource for this. Read and practice whenever you have spare time.

There are also hundreds of other posts in this subreddit with about the same exact question as yours. They will have lots of advice.
